Isn't there a silly name for a mating position where, for example,
white has two rooks on the seventh rank, on, say, the a and b files;
the black king is on b8; and one of black's rooks is on c8? Something
with the word "swine" in it? Anyone know the name of this mating
position?

If anyone really wants to learn mating patterns The Art of Checkmate
is the best one............it's a classic!

Dont know about a mating position - perhaps Dave does - but two
rooks on the seventh rank are known as "pigs on the seventh".

This is where I think it comes from.
I thought one rook on the 7th was known as a pig,and two were known
as flying pigs.

This is true...it i called a pig because it can just "gobble" up pawns.

As for a "named mate" there is none for two rooks on the 7th as far
as I know...but there is a ton of "named mates".

I think there is a name for this one...I can't remember it. I may have
come across it in "Chess in 10 easy lessons." That was my first chess
book and I have since lent it out so I can't check it out.
