You should also checkout the classic book, Pawn Structure Chess by IGM Andrew Soltis (part of the excellent McKay Chess Library series). Also in that series is The Middlegame in Chess by IGM Reuben Fine which includes a good chapter on pawn structure.

One of the best known positional plans based on pawn structure is the "minority attack"...definitely worthy of study.
