I played against an opponenent who made enough moves in order to construct the long game, and then; (admittedly) turned the game over to his/her son.

This is an innocent case, but it forced me to think; what if this is how correspondence chess masters are made.

Isn't that basically what playing someone using a book is? At least until you play the bird and take them out of their book.

It is not.

IMAGINE: opening move made by you, then 100 or more opponents are scrambling and marauding amongst themselves in order to make the best move possible against you (the innocent player who just wanted a fair game.)
