I played this game on other site. I was so disgusted with my opponent that I resigned at last. It was one of the three games I had to finish on that site before making a break there and playing exclusively on RHP.
I know what some of you will say ; you played within preagreed time controls and your opponent played with preagreed time controls. That is true, but let's be honest... After the game was definetly lost for him, he started to play so snaily, he would wait last 5 minutes before timeout and then move. He didn't break any rule, I know... But you have to keep some dignity...
So I eventually asked him if he want that points so badly. Of course he didn't reply, same as he didn't reply to my "Hello, I wish you a good game".
So after some weeks I simply resigned the game in disgust. Sure, it is his right to play within time controls but my right is to avoid players as unfair as him, even if that means to resign.
Good thing is that I just remembered that there are trophies on that site, everyone can see your trophies and the more you have it, the more popular and genuine player you are; you can send to your opponent animated trophies like "good sportmanship", "King of the Bishops" etc... So I've sent to him "good " with a picture of handshake..
Yeah childish, but frustration has to be wiped out somehow.
I could have the wrong attitude, so you are free to make your point.
Your opponent is/was a chump, yep he did play within the agreed time limits, doesn't stop him from being a sore loser and a chump to boot. I didn't check the ratings but it is usually only lower rated players who act like that, they're probably young of age too.
Resign the game, admit defeat and afford your opponent some glory.
Then get on with the next game.
I don't see why you need to keep track of the game that much once you're way ahead. A win is a win, whether it's on time or on the board. It takes the other guy a lot of effort to time the moves, while meanwhile I wouldn't really care; I'd just move back if and when I got the email, and if the timeout showed up I'd notice eventually.
It's nice to have a guaranteed win to come back to occasionally.
By resigning you just show him that his tactic worked and encourage him to do it again.
I don't see why you'd let it get you frustrated. You're not going to have to spend much time moving for the rest of the game. Just make him die a slow death if that's what he really wants. Who cares if it takes a year? It's not like you can't do anything else while you're playing correspondence chess.
Though I agree that he showed very poor sportsmanship.
Originally posted by jonnytyeah. it would. But in the moment I've resigned I just didn't want to play with him anymore
I see your frustration and I get annoyed when opponents instist on continuing completely lost games but I'd never give them the satisfaction of resigning. Wouldn't victory (in about 5 moves if you'd Queened) have been all the sweeter against such an annoying opponent?
You cannot force guys to resign (mores the pity).
Why did you take a Bishop when you promoted?
I hope it was because you were taking mickey and not because
you think you can only get a Queen if you promote on e1,d1,e8 or d8?
I'm not being funny. Some people think this and I've seen and heard
some incredible things on this site.
Played this morning - a rated game - Game 5229133
(been playing for 38 years first ever fools mate - even in friendlies).
Think these sites should have an adjudication button to claim a clear win.
Rule:
You can only use it once and if position is not a 100% win...
Anticipate posiibly replies No.1
(What's a 100% win? Show me a 100% win I read a book once that
said you cannot win by resigning...)
Read on...
...if the position is not a 100% win then you have lost the right
to claim it again during that game.
Adjudicator should be a strong player or put the position into
Russ's Rybka and if comes back after two minutes 'thought' with
a plus or more than 10 - it's a win.

Read with whiney voice:
(..but I had a position once where I was three Queens and
a Rook down and still won. If we adjudicate...etc etc)
Anticipate replies No.3
Friend Elfondragonfly (or what ever his silly name is) will no doubt
come on and say 'utter drivel' and then add why not get them to put the game
into their own Rybka - everybody has one.
Another great idea from Greenpawn34.
Why has nobody thought of this before?
Edit 1 - just seen why you promoted to a Bishop.
You must have posted whilst writing this - OK.
Originally posted by ivan2908nothing wrong with prolonging a game. you can do so as well by threatening to promote all of your pawns. most likely your opponent will then say something dumb like, "do you need five queens to mate" as he becomes frustrated by such behavior.
Yeah, you guys are right. Nine times out of ten I just slowly win but sometimes I am too annoyed to even play with that person for a win 😛
Like you,I'm all for the honourable resignation.Sadly some people are idiots.Personally I would capture all his pawns, queen all mine and try to mate 49 moves after the last pawnmove/capture. 😀 Your job is easy, his is tiresome.Let's put his stamina to the test!
Though I understand taking 'revenge' in such a way is not to everyone's liking. In that case do as you did, resign and don't play him again. You know you won.All you lost are some online ratingpoints = nothing.
