Is there a psychology behind the blunder? Chess blindness? There was an article in chess base a while back that was pretty interesting discussing the differences between humans and computers in chess...

Humans tend to stop calculating when an acceptable move is seen. The better the player, the more stringent the criteria for acceptable.

Therefore, one can conclude that blundering is the root of all evil.
