This doesn't happen often.

Another trap in the nimzo:

Yes after that huge benoni thread, I'm still playing the nimzo. I haven't memorized all the lines of the benoni yet.

Additional thought: Deflection is a tactical motif that I've known about for a long time, but I feel I've only just started to use it within the last few months. I hope someone can learn from this pattern.

I'm not sure that counts as a Queen sac.

It does. But to be technical I suppose I should call it a pseudo-sac as the material is regained plus a pawn.

Nice title to the thread (got my attention); but yes, that's not really a sac.

Nice trap though. 🙂

I don`t think that elementary combination can be considered as real sac. Look at this one:

[Event "Dyfed op"]
[Site "Fishguard"]
[Date "2003.02.??"]
[Round "1"]
[White "Williams,Arthur Howard"]
[Black "Cast,Jason"]
[Result "1/2"]
[Eco "E30"]
1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 Bb4 4.Bg5 c5 5.d5 Nxd5 6.Bxd8 Nxc3
7.Qb3 Ne4+ 8.Kd1 Nxf2+ 9.Kc2 Kxd8 10.Qg3 Nxh1 11.Qxg7 Re8
12.a3 Ba5 13.b4 Bc7 14.b5 f5 15.Qf6+ Re7 16.Nh3 d5 17.Qf8+ Re8 18.Qf6+ Re7 19.Qf8+ 1/2

14...f5? was not the best choice - after 14...d5! Black has serious advantage.

And y'all can call this whatever y'all want. Under the wiki definition though this certainly counts as a sac.

Referring to Wikipedia as serious source makes me smile 🙂

Here's the above game:

I actually used to try and play this variation, but my opponents would always play 5...e6 leaving white with no advantage at all.

Indeed.

It seems that "winning a pawn" would be a more accurate description of the game in question.

What did you alter to make it work?

I do, in fact, consider wiki a serious source. It is taken very seriously for the participants involved. It is peer-reviewed. And if a page doesn't contain accurate information, anyone can flag it as such.

So please, bring any inaccuracies in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacrifice_(chess) to wiki's attention and make the world a better place.
