1. d4 e6 2. Nf3 c5 3. e4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 a6 5. Nc3 Qc7 6. Bd3 Ne7 7. O-O Nec6 {looking awkward in terms of developing quickly. I decided to keep the pieces on the board} 8. Nde2 d6 9. Ng3 Nd7 10. Be3 g6 11. Qd2 {i considered f4 but wanted the option of Bh6 to exchange his good bishop} h5 {interesting. now Bh6 is not possible and he obviously decided to refrain from castling kingside.} 12. f4 {now that Bh6 is out of the question I found the text logical. controlling e5. giving me the option of a future f5 push} h4 13. Nh1 {the idea is to put the knight on g4 via f2} h3 14. g3 b5 15. a3 {don't know if it's neccessary to stop b4/Nb4} Bb7 16. Nf2 Na5 17. b3 {this move is designed to restrict the knight from the c4 square. unfortunately it weakens the dark squares on the queenside which becomes apparant after my opp's next move} Bg7 {very unpleasant!} 18. Nfd1 {i strongly considered giving up my rook for his bishop. after some consideration I decided to defend the knight instead. and thereby giving up any kinds of offensive on my part for some time} f5 {i was expecting the strong Rc8. now I have the chance to unpin my knight} 19. Rc1 Nc5 {strong move and a fairly complicated position already! pawn e4 is under attack and black has at least equalised} 20. Re1 {defending the e4 pawn in some variations} Nxd3 {20...fxe4 21.Be2 with the threat b4 is interesting and complicated} 21. Qxd3 O-O 22. Bd4 {exchanging bishops is not a bad idea. unfortunately, I now have an unprotected piece - the rook on c1 - allowing tricks on b3. perhaps Bd2 is an improvement for white (me)} fxe4 23. Nxe4 Nxb3 {ouch! equally strong seemed 23...Bxd4 24.Qxd4 Nxb3} 24. cxb3 Qxc1 25. Bxg7 Kxg7 {now it's an uphill struggle for me being down a pawn + rook for knight.} 26. Qd4+ Kh6 27. Nxd6 {neccessary to take risks in this position. cannot allow myself to be afraid of possible pins in the d-file} Qc6 28. Ne4 {only move to defend against the mate on g2 and possible pin after Rd8} Rad8 29. Qc5 {perhaps questionable to exchange queens but the alternatives were not pleasant at all} Qxc5+ 30. Nxc5 Bc8 31. Nf2 Rd2 {black enters the 7th rank and has a big advantage} 32. a4 Rc2 33. Nfe4 bxa4 34. bxa4 e5 {very strong move. bringing the bishop to life and opening the f-file. mate is just around the corner. could've resigned but where there's moves there's hope, no?} 35. fxe5 Rg2+ 36. Kh1 Bg4 37. Nd3 {is Nf6 posing problems for black? nah, Bf3 is still strong} Bf3 38. Nf4 Rxg3+ 39. Ng2 Rxg2 {i had had enough and accepted the mate} 40. Ng3 Rxg3#{good game!} 0-1
