in a few games lately i've tried castling on the queenside and found it to be quite easy to defend and easier to attack my opponents knigside castle with more help from the pawns. what do you think of this?

It really depends on the position.

but as a general tactic what do you think of it?

In my early days I was often tempted by the idea of an opposite side castling with pawn storms against my opponent, but now I've learned that control of the centre is essential for a successful attack.

In short, don't attack on the wing at the expense of the centre.

yeah i agree with that - get control of the centre and see where it is best to castle?

Opposite sides castling usually favours the more active side. If you're way behind in development then its often best to castle on the same side as your opponent.

definitely, I got a game that kinda shows the power of castle queen when you got a lead in development (i also had the only central pawns, which is why my wing succeded) a few blunders aside, it still shows the power of opposite castling
