At what point in this game did I actually have a mating line?

I think I counted a forced mate in 9 but I'm not quite sure.

... Either way it was pretty fun creaming the french defense 😛.

21.Bb5+ (rather than the move which was played) leads to mate by move 23.

i think you could have played better, you missed a mate in one TWICE

18. Nxh7 is pretty nice, but i think 18. f7+! is more forcing:

18. f7+ Rxf7 (forced, otherwise Qxh7 mate)
19. NxR QxN
20. Be2, with the idea of Bh5

23. Qe7+??
23. Bb5+, followed by 24. Qe7# is much better

24. Qc5+??
obviously bad, especially because of 24. Qd6#

other then that, well played!

24. Qd6 loses the queen.. it's not mate 😛 I don't think I missed mate in 1 lol... at that point I was looking for the fancy mate anyways, I'm sure I missed a lot more.

edit - and don't be quick to give my move 23 a ??... by then I had forced mate and there is no point in notating at all.

No it doesn't actually... After Qxg7+ black can reply with Kxg7 and I'm down a queen.

Yeah.. I'm an improving player, so please be tolerant, but can you write down the mate in 3 afetr Bb5+? After Bd7 (I think it's d7), I see no mate, due to the e5 (I think it's e5) barrier.

Don't be so hard on yourself, wow! I missed it too and I'm sure you don't consider me stupid (maybe I spoke to soon). I personally find that once you get your mind stuck on one line (such as the mating one I was looking for in this game) you can miss some simple stuff.

Very true, oen of the biggest problems I have. I get zoned into a few lines that are all winning for me that I miss the one line where I lose badly.

hehe, especially in the middlegame, when I create my plan, I think like this: I will do this, this and that (sometimes without thinking at what my opponent can do...like when thinking that my opponent will not move in this time...sometimes it might work, but sometimes it might not 🙁
