Your local league has increments? ... Luxury!
My league doesn't have increments, you have 1 hour for all moves + 15 minutes after 30 moves.
This is very fast compared to congresses... 90 mins + 30secs gained per move.
As per the question of reaching skill limit... every generation will have a Fisher, or Kasparov, or Carlsen.
Let's be thankful that the game we've chosen is practically infinite,
so the possibilities of enhancing our knowledge are endless.

I'm not talking about calculation speed. I'm talking about the time it takes to physically move the pieces.
@KnightStalker47
Is not accurately moving pieces a chess skill? If it is not then why is speed chess one of the competitions?
@eladar saidThat is a motor-coordination skill. Applies equally to playing go or checkers or buttoning buttons or threading needles.

@knightstalker47 saidOK, so make it a 5-second delay.

I think that the world war championship match should go back to a 24 game match with a 40 moves in 2/12 hours. I dislike fast chess. I have played two 24 game matches with these time controls and it is grueling. The best player does emerge.What do I know-not much? At 67 years I like the old rules.
@bigdoggproblem saidBesides, how many 60 year old players have played in world championships?
But I don't want to level the playing field.
If the 60 year old cannot calculate as fast as a 20-year old, I want the 20 year old to win.
I call this performance by a 20-year old "being better at chess than an old man".
