I'm surprised he resigned that game. After all, all he has do do is trade off that one pawn, and you are left with an ending that would be pretty hard to win in 2 minutes.

Quite right.

His whole game is hinged on psyching out his opponent. When that doesn't work he loses interest.

Edit: How did you know I had two minutes left?

Apart from dropping the e5 pawn early on (he took on d4 with the wrong knight) I'm quite proud of this thematc French - black's awful light-squared bishop (pawn), the blockade on d4 (even if it is the Queen), and the kingside attack enabled by the e5 pawn.

A return to pastures old.... and quite successfully. 10 d6 always seemed a better prospect for White to me - how is that dark-squared bishop going to get out?

How to beat the Grob.

This was all forced after 1. ... e5.

Black lost on time, and announced that he had mate before leaving the board. Sadly, 25 ... Qxa1+ isn't mate, and it is White who forces mate with 26 Rf1+ Kh8 27 Nf7+ Kg8 28 Nh6++ Kh8 29 Qg8+ Rxg8 30 Nf7#
