Always nice to talk and learn don't you think?
You mentioned the Najdorf, well that's one of the most preferred
sicilian variations. I have played the dragon intensly with much
success however as black against e4 I prefer alekhine's or carokann,
most rarely russian.
I was inspired by Botvinnik's carokann against Tal in the 1960 match
and I play it often against stronger players with positive results.
As white I prefer english, and english only (except for some
unorthodox Kadas or Grob rarely just to throw my opponent out of
book 😉). However it changes from week to week 😉.
I have a few questions:
1, What rating limits is it to become an NM, IM and GM (exclude
tournament successes)?
2, Why sicilian, who inspired you playing it?
3, I have played for over a year now and my development is rapid (I
beat most players with 1700 ELO). I play at least 30 games a day and
also I play at correspondance sites. I have tried all the main openings
and experimented with them as black and white. Should I now settle
for a chosen opening repertoir (yes I plan to become a master) or
should I keep experimenting learning more variations? I understand it
can be hard to answer but keep in mind that I have played through all
main lines and understand much fundamental thoughts about
opening.
4, Do you dance? Just kidding 😉.
Regards, Nils.
Alot of stuff for one post...hmmm...well you can ask Tony what I do to
the Caro Kan...that last one wasn't pretty.
Alekhine's defense has never worked for me...although Bobby used
successfully against Spassky in that WC match...I just never found the
reason of letting someone run my knight around.
Now to your questions
1. NM 2200 USCF ....IM around 2400...GM around 2500...like I said
before...it depends on norms to get those.
2. Bobby Fischer....I have learned alot from him because he was
almost a perfect chess player. But I do play the variations I love as
well...depending on my mood
3. Yes
4. Very well...just ask my wife...hehehe
Dave
I'm thoroughly convinced the Caro-Kann is not for me! As black I have
pretty much settled down to any Nf6 variation against d4.........pretty
sick I can play them all..........against e4 I haven't decided yet but I'm
pretty sure after I'm done being forced to play e5 and c5 ( Anybody
asks why I'll tell them!) it will be the modern...........As white I bust
out with with pure e4 most of the time but I also play 1.b3, which I
have pretty much specialized in.....hehe....not quite! I have played
Nf3 and c4 too.........I'm pretty good with those hypermodern
systems........not against Dave though.......actually most anything I
play against Dave I lose too quick! Although I did come extremely
close with none other than the Latvian Gambutt! The biggest joke but
surprisingly good!
