Guys & gals, what's black's best after

? I nearly got my butt burned twice after exd. And d6 does not look inviting after white's d5. I'm open for comments here.

3...exd4 is usually played before Nf6.

The sequence is

1. e4 e5
2. Nf3 Nc6
3. Nc3 Nf6
4. d4 ...

I a recent game, I played, as black,

4. ... exd
5. Nf3xd NxN
6. e5!

whereafter 6. ... Bc5 barely holds, though my Kside is ruined. I think.
(Opponent hung a piece & game went downhill from there.)

Why NXN? It only brings White's queen to a centre square where she will be guarded from minor-piece attacks. I suggest you play ed, and after Nxd play Bb4 which leads to a line that equalizes for Black.

e5 deserves a !? rather than a ! it's giving Black a free pawn.
