So this is about the scotch game and somehing my chess teacher tried to check.
It starts at follow
e4 e5 nf3 nc6 d4 e:d4
and there come the move
Bc4
Now I've noticed that in most variations white gets a huge adventage, and could find any moves which will cause white too many troubles.
I'de like it if you could check the position and come up with moves or starta game with me using this opening.
Thanks.
Hi
You can go to 'open invites' and set up a position you want to play from there.
Try 3 with either colour that should give you a feel for the opening.
This is what you are after.
Be aware that 3...Nf6 takes it into the territory of the Two Knights Defence
which is usually reached thus:
1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Nf6 4. d4 exd4 so if you go into this line
and start looking for it an opening book, look under Two Knights.
4.Nxd4 is the pure Scotch Game.
was there not a game Meek v Morphy in this line, of which Reti himself states that the move Bc4 is folly because it aims not for centre control and quick development, but a premature attack on f7, thus its no surprise that white gets his a$$ kicked.
Alexander Beaufort Meek vs Paul Morphy
Mobile 1855 · Scotch Game: Scotch Gambit. Saratt Variation
True.
White is losing pretty badly here
but only because he made a mistake.
After playing Bc4, Bc5, Ng5 Nh3.
In this game, in my opinion, white made a mistake.
My chess teacher has come up with this new idea ( I think)
QH5.
Now this is pinning the black knight to place if black castles, or simply preventing black from casteling giving him a rough game.
actually the point of playing ...Bc5 is that the queen can come to ...Qf6, as demonstrated by black in the recent Carlsen game, which black lost incidentally, but it was not as a result of the opening. This not only protects f7, but the knight is very flexible and can go either to the h file or the e file
It's not quite new - it's tricky.
If after 6.Qh5 Ne5 (looks good yes?).
But White has.........
I think you will find the old lads who picked this opening clean
of most of the traps in the 1800's played 6...Qe7 instead of 6...0-0
and 6...Ne5.
But there may be a new wrinkle in the Qh5 line that your teacher
has found.
I've not looked at it for for years.
I'd play 4...Nf6 I think 4...Bc5 is OK but I like 4...Nf6.
Yea.
4.Nf6
is the most common respond to the move by playing it in several chess computers and several online opponents.
Even tho, after ... 4Nf6
White simply carries on with Ng5.
Right now black has 2 usefull options.
A. 5... Ne5
B. d5
now both of these have good comments by white, which carries on up to a point where black and white might be break even, or with the slight edventage for white, but in the end it creates a game which is comfortable for white.
Now about you're comment to Qh5
Qe7
this is probably the best comment if you ask my teacher, now I remember he's passed through it but I forgot to take notes.
I'll ask him the next time I see him what do you do in respond to this.
As much as I can remember white either has a powerfull attack or reaches a comfortable game, but black gets nothing that good actually.
I'm sure Qe7 is OK.
You said this.
"I'll ask him the next time I see him what do you do in
respond to this."
Why don't to try and figure out yourself the response.
Your teacher will not be there all the time.
5. Ng5 is totally harmless. It's teeth were pulled long ago.
then 5...Ne5 works.
Get an up todate Two Knights book. (anything printed after 1910).
5.e5 will give you a theorectical plus.

well but why casteling?
I mean the white gets the pawn he lost as he leaves it to be taken by the pawn, but hey, ng5 right there is what I'm talking about.
Offensive veriation.
About the book, it really is hard to get chess book at all in Israel, not even talking of a specific book...
A site or few games that would demonstrate your point might be usefull if you don't mind
Originally posted by Lidanhey, I play the scotch gambit (similar to scotch game). If you would like I would be willing to play an unrated or two with you. Perhaps one as you with white and one with me as white? That way you can practice it out and see how other people play it as well

I dunno I got nothing 😞
Well done Cguy.
(I see you still have your Christmas hat on - I love it).
That game posted was all well known theory.
I played both sides of that opening seriously for about 5 years.
Still do if I'm in the mood.
It's great if you get someone who does not know it.
There are wee sneaky off the track shots for both sides, but if
your opponent picks their way through it then your bolt has been fired.
If you can get Estrins book on the Two Knights by Batsford.
It gives you all the fun and ideas but don't trust him.
The Two Knights is the most tactical of all openings.
(look at the game - all those psedo-sacs in a mainline).
My 30 year old copy is littered with notes busting lines
and unmentioned good OTB tries.
