2....f5 v the Bishops is called the Calabrese (or something like that).
it's not very good. Then it is a King's Gambit in reverse.

The Latvian is NOT a K.G. reversed because Black is hitting
e4 which in turn attacks the Knight on f3.
In Mainline K.G. White rarely plays fxe5 because there is nothing
on f6 to gain a tempo with.

The bust to the Latvian (the tactical bust) is in the 3.d4 variaition.

1.e4 e5 2.Bc4 f5?! is good in blitz/bullet or against unprepared opponent. When I was younger I have been used this in OTB with decent results.

I played it omce OTB against a 200+ player. - I was hammered.

Started playing 1.e4 e5 2.Bc4 d5!? this lunchtime - 2 wins and a loss.

It's at l;east as good as the Elephant 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 d5!?

When I play the brilliancy I'll post it.

Did you ever try the Evans reversed ? 1. e4 e5 2. Bc4 Nf6 (b5) 3. d3 b5
I'm glad you mentioned the Elephant Gambit , greenpawn.
How does it stand these days?
I was thinking about requesting a thematic of it since the site hasn't had one (that I can tell). I will when I reduce my game load.
I have an unrated halloween gambit going on right now. It's really wild. No comments on it at this time though. It is still in progress. 🙂

Played the Elephant for a while with OK results.

It's good OTB against someone who has never seen it before.
But it does not seem to have same kick a Latvian has. Although
I'm sure it's just as playable OTB.

Lost twice against 3.d3 a Philidor reversed.

I never exchanged Queens as I think White has a slight plus and
it's hard to mix things up from that position.
In both games I went sac happy.

Yes I tried to refute the Philidor a tempo down - a brilliant conception.

Sometimes after a loss I stand in front of a mirror and call myseld an idiot.

Do you know what?

My reflection nods in agreement.

Thanks. I'll look into the suggestions and hopefully I'll have something more interesting than the closed ruy lopez or anti sicilians.
Cheers
