The Mcdonnell attack (2. f4) has popped up on my radar lately after someone used it against me in a recent game. I had not been familiar with this opening at the time and I lost the game, though not due to my handling of the opening. What do you think is the best response? It seems to me that black has a pretty decent game after 2...d5.
Most people refer to this as the Grand Prix Attack, so the title of your thread may not get the traffic you would like.
After 1. e4 c5 2. f4, 2, ... d5 has been considered an efficient equalizing weapon, so modern Grand Prix practitioners now play 1. e4 c5 2. Nc3 and only then 3. f4.
