While Bobby Fischer sits in a jail cell muttering about conspiracies, the leading chess school in the U.S. is supported and honored by the presence of Anatoly Karpov:

I hope to God they let him play chess while he is immured there in that rotten jail. Otherwise, his mind could snap or something. Fischer NEEDS chess like a fish needs water. Or like we need air. That is why it is so rotten what they did to him. Sounds like a dictatorship to me.

Forgive me if I am out of touch, but what did they arrest Fisher for? Defecting during the cold war, or draft dodging? Stupid American patriotism.

For playing chess in Yugoslavia, thus violating the terms of an embargo.

I'm not sure where you got the idea that he defected or dodged the draft from-- he did neither of those things.

"When asked about the two Fischer Random chess games in support their fellow World Champion Bobby Fischer, Karpov said that Fischer has done so much for the chess world and he is a great champion. He thinks Fischer Random chess is quite interesting. He also thinks that Fischer should be left alone and be allowed to live out his life in peace. This is also the same sentiment from Susan Polgar. They both agreed that there are two sides to Bobby Fischer and we should honor his great chess accomplishment."
