How to stay under 2000 for ever (in both CC/online chess)? Do some of the following :-
- play the Smith-Morra Gambit or King Gambit as white in all games
- play 300 games simultaneously and in each give 5 minutes of thought to each move.
- Target weak players and delete challenges of those within 200 points of you.
- Never hand analyse your games, always use Fritz
- Delete games where your "pet openings" are not played.

He is currently rated 2735
Ken Smith was 2400+ I think

I never play the Smith-Morra Gambit or King's Gambit. So far so good. We'll call that one plus then. I don't play 300 games simultaneously (30 would be hard work for me) but 5 minutes thought is about right for me. Ummm call that a half, so one and a half so far. I don't target anyone, weak or strong and haven't deleted a challenge at all so far. Two and a half then. I never hand analyse my games but don't use Fritz or any other computerised contraption. I could use my ancient Novag Sola but I think that might rather defeat the object of analysis (have you noticed you can't spell analyse without spelling anal?) So another half then, three so far. I don't have a pet opening (the vet fees were getting ridiculous) and have never deleted a game yet. A whole one that time for a total of four. Well four out of five isn't bad. I reckon that explains why I seem to approach 2000 but never reach it. I am asymptotic to 2000.
What is this fixation with 2000? Does something wonderful happen when you reach the magic figure?

Surely by limiting your opening repetoire you can concentrate on your middle and endgame?

BTW, check out every game Northern Lad (6th on this site, 2300+ rating) has played after 1.e4 e5.

I hardly spend more than 30 seconds on a move. I know I will never get over 1600, but i still enjoy the game 😉

The Smith-Morra may help teach the value of dynamic compensation, and although the line requires accuracy, there is no known refutation for the opening.
