Okay I keep hearing these names like the London system and the Colle system or whatever, and I have no idea what they are. Like what exactly is a system? I've never played as if I had a certain 'system' in mind or anything. Help me please!

like in the colle they plan on playing 1d4 nf3 e3 Bd3 etc, and black can often do many different setups and white can still plan their idea..
when they are forced into a change it would be an "anit system"

to the OP: systems are certain openings more or less independent than what your opponent plays, and generally have the same setup in most variations, and most of the time even the same move order.(like the knight belongs to d2, bishop to e3 etc.)
google london system, or search the forums in RHP and you'll find a lot of useful info.

What is the move order of "My System"?. Just curious.
Here are some popular opening "systems":
Colle System: 1 d4 2 Nf3 3 e3 4 Bd3
London System: 1 d4 2 Nf3 3 Bf4
King's Indian Attack: 1 Nf3 2 g3 3 Bg2 4 O-O
In all cases, White tries to achieve a certain setup against almost any Black defense.
Black can almost always equalize, but White relies on his or her familiarity with the basic middlegame themes to gain an advantage, even though "objectively" (whatever that means) Black has equal chances.

somehow its hard for me to remember people without a picture to go along with it (i know its not your fault) and i wish russ would let everyone have an avatar.. i mean its not like you need that carrot over someones head, as if the unlimited games/clans/etc isnt enough.. 😕
but now that ive been thinking about im not sure if i should be in here, my chess knowledge is lacking, i played at the 1600 level untill timeout/mass resigning, which is good enough that if i explain something poorly a 1000 might think its great and get thrown off, where the main long going threads here are opening debate, which part of is about taste at times..
might be way off topic by now but ive cleaned my room this morning and now have a pile of 2 dozen chess books that need reading so if i leave here its not do to anyone sorry
