A sandbagger is someone who purposefully deflates their rating by losing games, usually by time out or by resigning, in order to be eligible for tournaments with weaker players, which they have a greater chance of winning.

In practical terms, on these forums, a sandbagger is anyone accused by The Clique of being a sandbagger. There once used to be a more technical definition, but that has been superseded by the practical one of "accusation equals guilt".

Not true. The real truth is that there is no such thing as a sandbagger or engine user because if there were they would be getting banned.

I fail to see how anyone would "sandbag" on this site.

I dont see any point. Why why why?

No money prizes, no free membership, nothing for winning a tourn.

Why?

I think you're all paranoid🙄

Since engine users have been banned from the site what is your point?

Also what criteria would you use to define a sandbagger?

The point is getting easy games for their clans.

If you are a 1700 rated player but can drop your rating to 1350/1400 and then take on a pile of clan games against 1450/1400 opposition then your clan is quids in.

Once your rating gets high again take on a few tournaments and lose these games, this drops your rating and the clan process starts again.

Which is even more pointless than fantasising about the importance of your personal rating on this site. But yeah, that's what some people apparently care about. The best response is simply not to care back. Really, it's like hating someone because he has more purple gems in Neverwinter Knights. Just don't lower yourself to that level, and the problem is solved.

Indeed.

If players actually do this they should be laughed at, not hated, as they are only fooling themselves.. The clan thing is all a bit "teenage" for me. To think it is more than just a distraction is just silly.
