chucky is about 60 points higher rated. dont know about you guys, and gal, but I think thats not much.
the point here was that magnus is already routined tournament player. the fact that he is 16 has nothing to do with his skills.
Originally posted by JusuhHe's not a routined player at this level yet, it's only his third tournament at this level, I believe (he struggled a lot at the first two). All the other players are a lot more experienced and higher rated. So it would be a great achievement for any player with the same amount of experience and the same rating. But the fact that he was still falling for scholar's mate eight years ago makes it a lot more amazing.

8 years ago, maggy was 8. Yikes.
Originally posted by JusuhWhen you get to that level of play, 60 points is about the same as a 1500 playing a 1700 (I would think). Look how long it takes Masters to get from 2500 to 2600. Yermo struggled with that margin for a time. If I was a betting man, then the 2800 would get my bet 9 times out of 10 against a 2740. To recap: Small rating margins are more daunting the higher you go.

what comes to his age, Radjabow was also 16-17 y.o when he beat Kasparov (about 2840 at the time) And surely there are many more examples. So although its "cool" he won, its not THAT spectacular.
