... what do you think?
after 6. ...h6?!, I think white has the advantage.
7. h5 Bh7
8. e6! this is a nice move, that brings black's king into trouble.
8. ...fxe6 is the most tried here, and a few times 8. ...Qd6.
About 75% of the games with this line are won by white.

Ive been looking at playing e4 again, and I looked at lines for the Caro, but wanted something offbeat so as to avoid heavy theory... Im currently looking at:
e4 c6
Nc3 d5
Qf3!?
or possibly the 2 knights variation.

the strength of the cc is that black can almost always continue with the theme regardless (i do not use opening books)
some faulty variations by white lead to attacks by black which are camouflaged by several standard and thematic buildup moves - and this gives black a home ground advantage.
for me this advantage was such that i was winning much more as black than white even though i was more familiar with the queens gambit ... so i now try to play carocann as black and white !!!! 🙂
disclaimer - perhaps this only applies to players of my level (1600-1700 ish). Less experienced players and more experienced players may find a completely different story - which i would be very interested to hear.

... it is a shame ... i would like to continue with h6 as that is my comfort zone and makes me feel relaxed.
are you sure i cannot play this line?
perhaps there is an easy way to step through the minefiled?
Originally posted by flexmoreI don't say its a losing line, but it can bring black into trouble and therefore I recommend avoiding it.

Originally posted by welsharnieI don't know about this. After Nf6 e5 dxc3! exf6 exf6 Qxc3 Nd7 Black is fine. Fritz gives it as equal. Before you start playing all these nuts lines you should really check out databases and have a reasonable computer program look it over. And play it!
e4 c6
Nc3 d5
Qf3 d4 is answered by Bc4, to which blacks best reply is probably e6 (Nf6 can lead to trouble after e5) when white plays Ne2 and has a (very) slight edge.
Originally posted by !~TONY~!I have played it. i am quite happy to play a line as white which will usually be more familiar to me than my opponent. Whats more, I dont mind getting an equal position as white if it saves me some time looking at endless lines of theory.

To be honest, I have had Nf6 played against me 4 times in OTB games. 3 of them continued e5 dxc3 exf6 cxd2+ Bxd2 and I got 2.5/3
I drew the other which continued with exf6 (instead of cxd2+) and I replied dxc3, and was happy enough with the position I found myself in, which is important to me.
So black can get a decent position, but there are places for him to go wrong, and some are not that obvious. As someone with little time to learn theory, this suits me fine.

don't be afraid to play h5 (are you worried about the potential weakening of the castled position if you go kingside?). it should not matter so much as white is in a similar boat.
