I never really had a chess coach or anything. I just played and learn from my mistakes or try 2. I use the queen gambit alot. My rating right now is 1369 provisonal still. I think my actual rating is around 1500.
Anybody see any major flaws in my game? I do play with two friends on here from high school who are in the 1000s, so I am not sure if that helps me 2 much.
Some quick comments:
If you are going to play the Queen's Gambit don't play 3. cxd5 if black has played 2...e6 or 2...c6. This alleviates the pressure in the centre and black is considered to have equal opportunities. Try to put pressure on the c file: rook on c1, queen on c2.
Haven't looked too much at the rest of your game but I did notice you tend to move your pawns in front of your castled king. Try not to. There are times when this is appropriate. E.g. you're about to be checkmated and there's no other option; sometimes a f or h pawn move is good to attack; but try not to move them as defensive moves to shoo away pesky attackers (though there are exceptions to this as to every other rule).
My personal opinion is that 3. cxd is a premature pawn grab. I think the only reason that has worked so far for you is because of the caliber of your opponents, but there are much better players than I that can give specific reasons and lines.
Let's take one of the games you weren't successful:
The two biggest flaws I see here is that your premature pawn attack in move 3 winds up losing serious tempo for you, and then look at the position in move 17. All your pawns are on dark squares, and your dark bishop will prove to be a non-factor in the game! It's almost like being a piece down the way the bishop is hemmed in by your pawns. So even though in the middle game you get the better of the knight/rook exchange, the inability of your dark bishop to play a role seriously hampers you.
But, I'm not that great a player myself - I'm sure there are better players than I am that might see other things you did where you went astray but could have recovered. 🙂
Originally posted by Mutt n StuDisagree about evaluation of early cxd5 - from black point of view early cxd5 is not too pleasant as black will be able to fight only for equality but not advantage. Actually cxd5 (usually made in 4th move but also possible in 3rd) system is one of the reasons why QG with 2...e6 is not so popular. Also Exchange system (3.cxd5) against Slav can be very dangerous weapon in hands of skilled player. For example Morozevich uses it with good results.

But 4.a3?! is real losing of tempo - better is 4.Nc3 with 5.Bf4 (or 5.Bg5 after 4...Nf4) 6.e3, 7.Bd3 8.Nf3 (e2) 9.Qc2 and so on....
Also i dont see the point of 6.Qa4?
You definitely should study games of these exchange systems played by strong players.
thanks for the comments so far...yeah my competition hasnt been the greatest so far. The reason I take the pawn early on is because I like to control the middle. What are your suggestions on better moves for that position?
the game u pointed out, I missed out by not paying attention to the threat of the castle side, but I understand what you are saying. I should of moved my king after I took his rook. And the queen wouldnt have been able to sneak over there like that. I was careless, but I thought I was winning in material up to that point.
Yes, that exchange system? Where can I find some good examples for that exchange system?
The 4, a3 move is 2 stop the bishop from doing that annoying check but i should probably should just deal with it instead of wasting a move because its never a big threat.

2. c4 e6
3. Nc3(!)
rather than specific moves at this stage of your learning curve start looking for general rinciples. First one with regard to the opening is
Rapid Development
or ... get your pieces out asap.
(hence the earlier criticism of your 4. a3 - which develops nothing).
