In any case, the real problem seems to be whites f4, which Rybla doesn't like either (it recommends Ra3).
Yes, I think the idea of g5 is to restrain a kingside advance of the black pawns.
But f4 was just an inaccuracy, not the losing move. Houdini also suggested Ra3 instead.
The losing move is Rd7 at the end of the game. But Kramnik was under time pressure when he played it.
Sadly for him, he reached the time control just after making that mistake. So he got plenty of time to realize his position was lost. Aronian's last two moves, g5 and Bd6 were just those suggested by Houdini. Houdini gave Black a +5 score after Bd6
2nd game.
aronian surprisingly chose 1.e4 and delivered a novelty
against kramniks usual berlin defence. kramnik reacted well however
and had a fairly easy draw.
