With amatuers-

1) more than a 5 min think generally means the player has no idea what to play and is just bouncing back and forth between variations that don't work. Ultimately, they will choose a 3rd move with very little analysis that feels right. This move never is good.

2) In complicated lines, if you are not practiced at holding the new positions well in your head, you might miss a pin or such that is crucial. This shouldnt happen in CC but certainly is something to watch out for in OTB.

Spoken from personal experience, although I have one or two beauties that required 30 min to concoct.
