Does anyone here play the Old Indian? I've been playing it in online blitz for about a year, intending to use a combination of the Old Indian and the King's Indian as my main defences against 1.d4 and 1.c4. Yesterday I finally got to play it in an OTB game:

9. ... Ng4 would have been nice (thanks Mr. Fritz). I'll look out for that idea in future.

Here are some Old Indian games played by someone a tad more talented than me, Rashid Nezhmetdinov.

And the second, his most famous game.

Not bad.

Might be an idea for some of the lads on here to try it.
Get the Queens off at move 5 before the lose it at move 8. 😉

Nezhmetdinov, a brilliant player. I had collection of his games in Russian.
I could not read Russian so I was forced to work out for myself what they
were saying during the game about the position.

He was also the brill at checkers. there are loads of checkers games in the book as well.

White ( Nezhmetdinov) to play and win.

Hmmmmmmm.

Maybe white is going down the board. 😛

Don't you mean 7-10? After 14-7 White has 3-10-19-26. But what does White do after 15-6?

Edit: Ok, I think I understand. In checkers the black square is on the right hand side, so you have to look at the board sideways. If you tilt your head to the right, then White plays 13-18, Black plays 22-13 and White plays 9-18-11-20.

I have no idea what you're talking about, glad my newbie numbers incited some sort of response
😛

White has only four legal moves, assuming the Kings are Draughts-Queens

1. c1-a3? d4-e3 2. a3(xd6)f8 e3(xd2)c1=Q and it's drawish
1. c1-b2? f4-e3 2. b2(xd4,d6)b8 e3(xd2)c1=Q and it's drawish
1. d2-e3? d4(xe3)f2 2. c1(xf4)h6 e1=Q and it's drawish
1. d2-c3 d4(xc3)b2 2. c1(xb2,d6)e7 e3 and it appears a draw to me too.

Well if you turn the board anti-clockwise by 90 degrees so that White's king is on "h3", then using your numbskull notation, White has g4-f5; Black has to capture with e6-g4 and White clears the board with h3-f5-d3-b5.

Srsly why would Greenpee give us a rotated position. And I only used the coordinates because the OFFICIAL notation seemed to CONFUSE you

white plays 1.d2-e3 f4x-d2 and the King then captures all the rest of the men.

Of course now I realise after 1.d2-e3 black can play 1...d4x-f2.

Huh! So I screwed up my own joke - what do I know about checkers?

(The best way to study checkers is by having a full set in front of you. 😉 )

BEWARE:
Checkers are been blown by computers. Even the weakest models can
beat 99% of humans.

In checkers tournaments openings are that well known that players
draw lots and are given a positions to play from as the openings have been
played out.

The same applies to chess... 99% of humans cannot make the distinction between a horsie and a bishie anyway.
