Ahhh yes, so there I was at a local club that the college hosts weekly, I was just walkin around watching peoples games, enjoyin the atmosphere and such. Then came a tap on the shoulder, Excuse me, are you interested in a game? I looked down at the KID who was no more than 10. Anyways I was hesitant, so I asked, Kasparov-Kramnik-and Nigel Short all get in a fight; who wins? The kid laughs and says Who the hell are those guys?? I asked him Are you serious?, he replied, Yes, are they chess people? I told him to take a seat. We sit at a table and he pulls out his set and clock, sets up his pieces and mine puts the clock at 30 mins and says My move.....Ok so the kid opens with D4, I answered Nf6(trying something out) and he turns it into a Ruy Lopez. Ok so here I am thinkin, Ok this kid is 10 years old, do I play hard or make my moves fast so he has more time? I chose the latter. Then came my nightmare; THE PIRC DEFENSE! Those were the worst 30 minutes of my life, this kid kicked my butt up and down those ranks and files without remorse. I resign, he says Oh yea by the way, Nigel is English, he'd kick all their asses! and left. This my friends is the reason why you should think then think again then re-think your original thought of playing the Pirc unless you know it like the back of your hand, cause let me tell you, when a 10 year old stuffs you like that; it makes you want to cry.:'(:'(:'(

Theoretically possible if black will play d6, e5, Nc6, g6, Nf6, Bg7 (in whatever order) and white will comply:-) But practically, it is unlikely transformation.
this is not possible as written: "Ok so the kid opens with D4, I answered Nf6(trying something out) and he turns it into a Ruy Lopez." unless there are a lot of moves left out
Originally posted by dasterAs well as any other opening if you don't know how to handle itπ I play Pirc constantly and in my experience it is very solid and relatively easy to play defence. And white should play very accurately to maintain initiative. The only problem with it is that in some lines white can virtually force the draw.
Pirc is evil.
Well its my understanding that the Pirc is played when you want a semi-open game, Pirc games lead to less drawn games and more tough long ardous battles, which i like. By giving white the middle and castling early the Pirc does seem nice, but I always struggle to regain a solid position on the middle.. i need to work on my queen side development, thats for sure.

It is totally possible to play a pirc like system against d4...
d4 ..d6
e4 ..Nf6
Nc3 ..Nd7
I've had this at least 10 times on this site, though im not really playing the pirc, it looks like one, just without ..g6 ..Bg7 that's all.
