Originally posted by RahimKI like it. I think what's happened is he's become increasingly introverted and genuinely intrigued in chess, so the standard of writing has decreased whilst his play has improved. Interesting to read between the lines if I'm right about that. I think Short has probably become very bored though.
Anyone still following this? I can never get the pictures of the board position to show up. There isn't much instructive just words. What do you think?

It reads like a story book to me. Not much else. What really bugs me about that is that it says in the follow position, diagram and then there is nothing there and then he writes the moves down.
Like this, In the following position:
1.exd5 Nxd5 2.Bxd5
That's annoying. Also not posting the whole games because he is imberrased of it. Grow up, we have all been there. I'm sure we all have games which we are not proud of but we still let people see the whole game and give advice.

Btw, the guys handle on FICS is AlecHyne - I left him a message saying the web presentation omitted much and he did not reply. It's slightly odd for The Guardian website to be incomplete - as initially they prided themselves on being the first UK newspaper totally available on-line too. (Free, and registrationless too.)

Wow. I remember watching Nigel short v Kasparov on TV (it was them , right?), i still suck at chess right enough :)
I got to read this.
One more thing, what do you have to read?
Read my Need helping getting to 1400 thread. I just bumped it. That will do more for you then reading the rookie articles.
Page 2 half way down, follow that advice on the thread. Page 12 is for planning if you are interested.
