Look at this game I just played. Probably the best game of my life, until I completely get whamslamboozled in this ending. I was looking forward to playing e2 mate, and look what happens. Embarassing. Slimed. GAHHHHHHHH!

Looking it over with Junior afterwards, it looks like I played absolutely great when push came to shove, then I botched the ending, missing about 8-10 wins, then played just about the only move that lets White draw.

I own it. And Silman's two books, and Dvorestky's book, and Shereshevsky's book.

Nice handling of the Yugoslav. I enjoyed playing over that game.

Yeah that was the final straw. As a sidenote, I didn't actually mean to play 38..Qf4, trading queens. I meant to play Qb4, and keep the queens on, maybe looking to pick up the a-pawn at some point. Unfortunately I typed Qf4 and hit enter! Also, 58..Kg6 isn't the best move either. The obvious 58..f5! is.

Yeah, I wondered about the trading of the queens. It seemed to dampen the initiative you worked so hard to gain. Thought you might have preferred simplification at that point though.

The look on the board after the trading of black's pawns vs. white's was impressive.

Very good game especially given the caliber of your opponent! Was this a simul or really one on one?

I like how you were careful not to let him get any real attacking chances. The knight sacrifice ensured he wouldn't get much, but I think you could have done well even if he did get some initiative after hxg4. With White unable to attack Black's king, there is no advantage and after Rxc3, it's clear Black has all the chances. I think you may have actually underestimated your attack by offering a queen trade, but of course, the endgame did become winning for you anyway. Too bad. 🙁

Yeah, it was something like a 10 or 15 person simul. It's funny, because most humans, me included, would not play Qf4, but Junior thinks it's unequivocally best. I guess I can be happy I can't type moves correctly! I just enjoyed having 6 pawns for a rook, and am pretty sad I blew it.

I don't think that anybody has mentioned that the move 45...g3? is a blunder yet, because of 46.Rb4!

Of course, 66...f3 seems to be where it's really over, and it's too bad, because that was an awesome game. But really, 67.Rxd2+!! is pretty hard to see.
