I have a 26 post thread going on analysis for the Cunningham Defence.
I also touch on the dubious Cunningham Gambit:
"It should be noted here that the tactical minefield following the flashy 5.g3?! shouldn't be entered into lightly. This requires early inaccuracies from Black to make the counter-attack on f7 anything like sound.
For instance:
5.g3?! fxg3 6.0-0 gxh2+ 7.Kh1!? d5! (Black correctly goes for the throat) 8.Bxd5 Nf6 9.Bxf7+!? Kxf7 10.Nxh4 Re8! 11.Nc3 Kg8 12.d3 Nxe4!? 13.Nxe4 Qxh4 & Black has maintained the advantage & avoided the early Morphyesque assault. Huistra-Bouwhuis 1998 0-1
Having said that, if your opponent is un-prepared...
The move I must suggest is the routine
5.Kf1"
Whilst Northern Lad (a 2281 FIDE rated OTB King's gambit specialist) states:
"It should be noted that after 5.g3? fxg3 6.0-0 d5! first is stronger still, virtually -+."
