How do you all (try to) avoid making blunders?

Here's a few things I have tried:

- to look at the position AFTER my next move. It is easier to do for the few games where I am using a sideboard - which helps also to find a good move (but that is another question ...).

- when I have a list of games I go through my games TWICE. The first time to find the move I want to make. The second time, typically a few hours later, to check for blunders and to effectively make the move. In that run, I don't re-think my plan or combination, just look at possible obvious mistakes.

The only use I have for a sideboard is to store the whisky in.
I prefer to move within a few seconds, that way I play so many moves in a small space of time that the blunders become blurred distant memories. Of course my true rating if I played slowly and with care would be around 2500 but I would have less fun

Sadly, they often show me mine in a rather UN-sporting fashion! Like exploiting them or some nonsense. For shame! 😀

I try and play a slow game on another site before i come and make my moves. This gets rid of my eagerness so i don't make super fast moves, which, i obviously regret later.

I always play through the whole game from the beginning as well, it's amazing how fast i forget what i was planning.

This all said and done i still make some amazing blunders so perhaps this should be a tip of what not to do 😕

I want to hear more from you and more from players who feel the same.
RHP is big enough,if our better players will give their time.

You know there is probably very little difference between us. Have you ever studied any chess books? As soon as i played through some moves in a book i improved loads in a short time. I've only been playing 2 years, went from 1200-1500 in a matter of months. Once you have studied some strategic ideas, you'll be able to beat -1400 all the time by just correcting their mistakes.

Tip Of The Day:
When you're putting a kingside attack together, unless you see an immediate forcing line, DON'T LEAVE A ROOK HANGING FOR THE SAKE OF ONE TEMPO!

A pawn, sure. A piece? Maybe in the right circumstances. A rook? Naaah...

😳
