I found an article about it in chessbase.com and even if it speaks only about the idea of playing 4....Bc5 after the usual 1.e4,e5 2.Nf3,Nc6 3.Bc4,Nf6 4.Ng5, I decided to give it a try with a couple of unrated games.
In the first I made the wrong move,6 Nxe4,and resigned early because I flawed everything.
In the second try I did fine, even if there are so many variations for white to stop it Game 593526
4 Bc5 is a good developing move, ignoring the threat in f7,while white moves the same pieces repeatedly in the opening............
Any analisis or thoughts on this ?

About the Traxler-Wilkes Barre Variation, in my copy of Estrin's Two Knights's Defence, he says: "It should be mentioned here that only players who have the ability to memorize long and complicated variations...should be encouraged to play this variation. A great many lines have been deeply analysed and anyone who thinks that he will be able to find everything over the board is like a sailor who has set out on an open sea without sails or a compass." So, in correspondence, the one with the best library has a decided advantage.

The Wilkes-Barre or Traxler or whatever you wish to call it is an extremely harsh answer to the two knights, fried liver or fegatello or whatever you wish to call it. Is anyone confused now?

Feivel (I love fried liver)

Yes,it pretty riskful if white doesn't go panic and defends with caution, but what the hell...........this gambit style counterattack it's damn fun!until I lose..........

apperently the traxler is a won game if opponent goes into it

according to what i have read anyways,
I try and play this in blitz a lot and have a lot of sucess with it but in a long game i would be afraid to play it as there are so many variations and if black does not do the correct attack, they are way down in material and in for a loss when white develops

So what is the basic line on this puppy?

Sounds fun.

Although not as fun as the Frankenstein-Dracula, which I've also been meaning to try :-)

The line is the same as thr Italian game with a couple of variations
1.e4,e5 2.Nf3,Nc6 3.Bc4,Nf6 4.Ng5,Bc5! from here is for the strong hearted and you have to be disposed to give your opponent a rook and bishop advantage.
5.Nxf7,Qe7 6.Nxh8,Bxf2 7.Kxf2,Nxe4 and here you have to be very careful and hope your opponent being disoriented,if not Black will be slaughteredGame 593564
This is dangerous as a firework lit in an arsenal, but it's a very funny gambit.

This makes the line look better than it really is. If white plays Bxf7+!, the correct move, and then moves it back, white is much better!

White on move 32 should have taken the black queen.
The game would have been over in favour of white
A pretty tactical game indeed.

Thanks man!
In your game the Cat didn't took the bishop bait and made things more difficult, but you came out with an amazing Queen sac and a final knight dance for the checkmate.
