Hello everyone. Just thought I'd ask for your infinite wisdom, and try to get some answers to two questions I have.
#1. Does playing lots of blitz chess (mostly 10 mins) improve your over-all chess abilitiy, or hurt it for OTB play?
#2. What are some of your ways that you improve your vision?
Thank you very much in advance.

2. Playing blind chess is a very effective way to imrove your chess vision.

2) I'm not so sure - it helps with visualisation which isn't quite the same. Chess vision is a matter of spotting candidate moves both for you and your opponent, Kotov suggests an exercise where you set up a position which you have analysis for, work it out spending about half an hour but without touching the pieces and then compare your answers to those of the person responsible for the analysis.

Blitz let's you try out lots of ideas quickly. Understanding a strategic idea like, say, the strength of the rook on the 7th rank, can be picked up and used in blitz matches to improve your results very quickly. I learned how to play chess on yahoo, read a book and went from 1000-1500 in about 6 months. It would have taken years here (as you only learn by making mistakes, you pay for your mistakes for weeks playing correspondence!)

Once you have learned the basics though, you must move on to a deeper positional understanding in order to become a strong player. I thoroughly believe correspondence is the best way to gain this understanding, as you can learn the art of deep analysis while playing.
I joined a club shortly after starting on yahoo. When i arrived i played quickly and lost to the better players. Now, i play slowly (too slowly), yes i'll happily spend 20 minutes on a move duaring a league game. Unfortunately league games are timed! I've recently gone back to yahoo because i'm forever running into time trouble for no good reason. Blitz can hurt your game one way, but correspondence can hurt it another way, balance is between the two is the key i feel. To be a good OTB player you must manage your clock correctly, there is no better way to do this than blitz!
2. Never played blind chess, but i've played blind drunk 😕
