I have been playing a gambit that I am sure is unsound but I have been sucessful using this gambit in blitz games on FICS.

    what is this called?

I don't know what it's called, but just from looking at it, I can see that the immediate ..f6 might be slightly inaccurate. What about this line?

    1. d4 e5 2. de f6 3. ef Nf6 4. e4!

Since 4..Ne4 and Black gets messed up by 5. Qh5+ . Just my thoughts, I could be missing something. 😀

Well, as Dr McGrew says. It's better to play an unsound line you know well than a sound line you don't know at all.

I like it. Kind of a BDG in reverse. e4 Nc6 is interesting.

iono...BDG doesn't seem to perform that well, and playing it a tempo down can't help

but you do have a point, it IS better to play into an unsound line you know than a sound tactical line that you don't know. However, I would prefer playing into sound lines that I DO know

I started playing this after I started playing the Smith Morra Gambit... it's similar in that you lure the pawn over to develope the knight.

I played this against Fritz and he got an edge after the opening - as usual... but there was no swift exploitation of my shady opening.

I have other games that I have won... and many that I lost as well, but I don't think I lost because the opening was bad as much as my play was bad.

    here are a few

    a win

If you ever have any more questions about an opening name I recommend ....

    http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Lab/7378/chess.htm

You can find openings by name, move, or ECO.

You may also want to give the Albin Counter Gambit a shot, 1.d4 d5 2.c4 e5!? 3.dxe5 d4 - a bit suspect, but sharp and interesting.

Yes, thats it. You can download all of the gambit cartel pdf's here:

or if you just want no 33 on the Soeller Gambit I have it here:

    Great! thanks

I have all of the Mcgrew articles but I didn't know this was covered.

The bummer is that I can't really use it on here now!!! 😕

    edit:
I actually read this article before now that i see it again. Clyde Nakamura is brilliant

    Definantly seems interesting, but after

    1.d4 e5
    2. dx35 f6
    3. e4 it seems that we have transposed somewhat into the dreaded (for black atleast)
    1.e4 e5
    2. Nf6 f6?
where a quick sac on e5 turns out to be disasterous for black
