I'm not convinced the USA is that strong in chess. Chess is not very popular in America.

I was referring to the decline of U.S. Chess. Even internationally, only the top players get the money. For every Kramnik, there's probably 500,000 masters that don't have much.
There are about 100,000,000 chess players worldwide, not exactly a declining sport, just in the US it's not presently pushed. If another Fischer came about.....
