Check out the rules section on here for the full lowdown. Essentially when A moves a pawn 2 squares then if B has a pawn on the 6th rank he can take A's pawn as if it had only moved one square. Must be the very next move and only relevant to pawns..

ps: i already new what the en passant was but thanx neway drumbo and knightlore

I really don't think its a fundamental part of the game... why is it? does it create a disadvantage without it?
