Vladimir Afromeev

Vladimir Afromeev has broken into the Fide top 100 rated players with a rating of 2628. The most unusual thing about this is not that he has not gained the IM or GM title but that he was born in 1954. Quite amazing in modern chess. Is anyone aware of this happening before?

To become a GM in your 60's is indeed unheard of. Like Grandma Moses, etc.
