So we know who the entrants are..
Peter Svidler
Veselin Topalov
Vishy Anand
Hikaru Nakamura
Sergei Karjakin
Fabiano Caruana
Anish Giri
Levon Aronian
So, who do you think will win? It is still unclear, but atm it looks like this will be held in America somewhere. Perhaps this gives the US participants home advantage?
My pick is Anish Giri. While he has been accused of being drawish, i think this will be a serious advantage in the Candidates. Anand won with +3 last time, as the tournament approaches the end he will be playing people who need to win. I think, over the last year or so he has managed to put serious doubt into the minds of the elite guys about whether they can beat him at all. Carlsen did the same thing when he broke onto the scene around 18/19 years old. He drew with the top three of four guys and beat the rest. I think Anish is growing in confidence and has the ability to emulate this strategy.. 🙂
Does it really matter. Look who they have to face if they win.
Hopefully Nakamura. Possibly Giri (the result of that WC final is easy to
predict - 12 draws and Carlsen wins the blitz tie break.).
Pity none of the Chinese, MVL or Wesley So never made it.
I'm fed up seeing the crowd in that list playing each other again and again.
Originally posted by greenpawn34Yes I have to agree, it has been the same old faces for a long time now. I think Nakamura has a good chance to win, but I can't back him because Carlsen would just smash him in a match so it would be a total waste of time (unless Nakamura can pull off some sort of Alekhine-esque turn around).

I think they should do away with the wild card and instead reserve a spot for a player who isn't eligible for the other other qualifying criteria (Rating/Grand prix. etc..) Why not have a special qualifying tournament for that spot alone? That way we get someone from outside the top ten who get's there on merit.
Originally posted by sundown316Yes I mentioned that, his awful record against Carlsen makes him a poor contender. It's a pity that Carlsen is so dominant against him tbh, he has such good results against everyone else he would normally be a prime candidate.
But he can't beat Carlsen. +0-12 can't be explained away that easily.
