Er... Pachelbel's Canon was written by Johann Pachelbel, not by Bach. Of course you could listen to Bach and Pachelbel's Canon, but I wouldn't recommend doing that simultaneously.
mostly instrumental stuff for me. I feel lyrics tend to disturb my focus slightly. now it's mike oldfield's tubular bells. the caveman bit is about to begin, but it doesn't distract because I can't understand 'cave jive'.
I LOVE listening to music while I play chess or poker, mostly instrumental stuff helps me to concentrate but I think as long as you are really familiar with the songs and aren't listening to something brand new they shouldn't distract you too much. I love to listen to any Sting album I find it very intellectually inspiring
