No doubt. And in response to 2..g6, I've always played 3. Nc3!, looking to play 4. e4. Not so easy for Black. Looking this line up in my database, White scores extremely well. 😀

i wouldn't play 2...c6.

i'd play 2...g6 then 3...Bg7 then i can develope the knight.

i think you can still get to a leningrad position even when white plays 2.Bg5

2.Bg5...g6
then 3...Bg7 and 4...d6...then develope my kings knight.

Try looking up 4. e4! smarty pants. On Chessgames.com, out of something like 10 games, Black hasn't won one.

yea, one of the reasons to play ...c6 first is to prevent e4.
