I want to buy Fritz, because after hearing the sheer amount of reviews saying how its superior to Chessmaster, I've decided to buy it. I mainly want the analyzis feature that shows the game chart. However, I'm confused about which Fritz to buy. I searched "Fritz" on amazon.com and the results were
Fritz 10 (Chessbase)
Fritz 9: Play chess (Viva Media)
Deep Fritz: Grandmaster Deluxe (Viva Media)
Fritz 10 with Exclusive Bonus (Chesscentral)
Fritz 9 (Chessbase)
and a little more down...
Deep Fritz 8 by Viva media
Which do I choose? Isn't there just a plain old regular fritz or something instead of "deep" and "GM Deluxe"? Any help would be appreciated.

I'd go with the version that's cheapest, they're essentially the same from what I hear.
Originally posted by chesskid001My copy of Fritz 7 is the Viva Media edition. The only difference, as far I can tell, between it and the official ChessBase edition (aside from packaging) is that I must endure a Viva Media splash screen when the program opens. This spalsh screen may delay the programs opening by a few seconds.

Of course, if I simply use Fritz 7 as an analysis program with Fritz 9 or ChessBase 8, there is no splash screen.
If you are scrapped for cash, the Viva Media will get you the program at less cost. However, if you sue Fritz a lot, and find such things irritating, it may not be worth the $10 you save over the long haul.
