ok..1.c4, e4, 2.Nc3, Bb4.
if the knight gets taken by the bishop, which pawn shd recapture? iv heard it said that u shd take outwards in this situation, ie. dxc3, bt i dont kno y thas better than bxc3

I'd take with the b Pawn for the stronger center.
1. e4 e5
2. Nf3 Nc6
3. Bb5 a6
4. Bxc6 bxc6?
5. d4 exd4
6. Qxd4+=
or...
1. e4 e5
2. Nf3 Nc6
3. Bb5 a6
4. Bxc6 dxc6!!
5. d4 exd4
6. Qxd4 Qxd4
7. Nxd4 Nf6 =
dxc6 allows the queen to challenge the d-file and equalized for black.
also 4...dxc6 prevents 5. Nxe5
1. e4 e5
2. Nf3 Nc6
3. Bb5 a6
4. Bxc6 dxc6
5. Nxe5 Qd4
6. Nf3 Qxe4+
7. Qe2 Qxe2+
8. Kxe2 -=
so in this situation, dxc6 is totally superior because of the tactics involving the queen on the d-file.

1. c4 e5
2. Nc3 Bb4
3. ... Bxc3
After wich i think bxc3 is the best move, however 3. Nd5 is interesting.
Originally posted by Testriderit doesnt matter... actually in that situation Nd5 is probably best, but dxc3 is still superior, junior crafty and fritz confirm my choice

I agree with Tony,Nd5 seems best.I don't like Bb4 in this position.
If you're not gonna play Nd5,I'd play 3.g3,and if black takes on c3,I'd prefer to take with the b-pawn.You get a nice half-open b-file,and you can play d4 later, aiming to create a strong center, together with a bishop on g2,that looks pretty good to me.
I put these moves in fritz: 1.c4,e5 2.Nc3,Bb4 3.g3,Bxc3,after 10 minutes,the engine prefers 4.dxc3,yet it's openingbook says 4.bxc3 is best.Guess it's all good 🙂
