You can rule out Kg7 because a6 is covered and if the rook is put on the eighth rank then the idea doesnt work on account of the king being in the way on g7.

I dont mean to brag but its interesting to see how some problems that are easy for me are harder for others and some problems i cant figure for the life of me are a breeze for everyone else. I guess life is the same way.

Kg7 Doesn't work because the Rook needs the use of g7 to skewer the Queen once it moves to g1. 😉

The rook could use any protected square on the g file but since a6 is covered that rules out g6 and if the king is on g7 that rules out g8 because the king is in the way. 🙂
