Good try - but that is not the best move.

I thought it was a different move.Different than Nc7 that is.

I saw the mate threat, but did not think that it would fall, to Bf8... such a move is easily missed. But going to h5 is urgent.

A beautifull one.

Some knucklehead 2000-player struggling to slime his way back in the game after getting outplayed by a 1500. 😞

LOL, yes...I was sure, any minute, he was going to finish it. Ever since ...Qxc3 it was like he was playing brilliantly while I was fumbling about.

I think the key to the position is finding the 1.Nc7 Qxb3 2.Ne8+ Kh8 3.Nf6+ Bf8! defense which I failed to find. the main point is that I analyzed the Kh8 variation lastly and rather half-heartedly after calculating till mate with the Ke7, Kf8 and Kg8 variations.

and nice position by the way, I almost never get such puzzle-like positions in my games, you should feel lucky!

The key to the position is that you missed Nh5+? 😛 i.e. my first move was Ne3 but that goes nowhere after Qxb3 Nf5+ Kf6, then it was clear f6 had to be covered too, tadaa Nf4 does the trick
