I am making a chess set although i am making a very rustic looking set i just some hazel and a knife then a few hours later i have a king its quite slow they dont look brilliant but they have a nice home made feel to them. i will post a pic at some point.

I'm too much of a perfectionist for rustic chess pieces. Enjoy, though and post pics.

you might also consider carving them out of jeweler's wax and then having them cast in bronze or another metal. this way, you only have to carve each peice once, and then the wax is used to make a mold which can create any number of the same peice over and over.

i think you can get carving wax at Hobby stores, but definitely on the internet.
