I've lost the last 8 games in a row. Maybe I'm not eating right.
I was wondering if anyone could tell me who had the advantage here before I screwed it up. Are two rooks generally better in an end game than a Queen?

Originally posted by MKinschI played it out, I think you probably should have won that - that absolute pin HAS to be avoided.

Even if Black had avoided the absolute pin on move 38, I'm not sure that Black had a win. White's double rook attack on the king might have been able to force a draw. Black's only hope to avoid the draw would be to retreat the king to the h5 square, but in that case, I'd be afraid that the two rooks might be able to mate Black.
Originally posted by Mad RookThat's the way my line played out, but I was able to check the king and push a pawn so the king had an escape square. It was just me playing out moves quickly though, so it's far from the verdict.

Originally posted by cmsMasterYeah, I just glanced at it quickly myself and didn't look at any moves before move 38. I think if Black had any real winnning chances, it had to be before move 38.

Originally posted by Mad RookYeah I definitely lost all hope after move 38. I didn't factor in that it would take a move to kill his rook after he took my Queen. I was hoping to simplify and rely on my nifty pawn structure. I'm cursed with an extremely distractable brain. Thanks for the replies.

Often a queen is more than a match for 2 rooks due to her lighthouse effect when occupying central squares, but against connect rooks (particularly on the 7th rank) she can be totally outclassed.
A good guideline is that a queen becomes more powerful against the rook pair the more pieces she has in support (in a materially balanced game). King position plays a key role.
Originally posted by Mad RookOh dang! That makes me sad. I looked at that move for a while but all I could see was my threatening pawns all getting slaughtered. I didn't realize that when he moved his king away I could have taken his rook. Well at least I got to a point where a win was in the general vicinity.
Wow, I think you're right... How did I miss that one? I guess that's why I'm just a patzer, lol. (I should have checked it with Fritz)
