Looking at the log jam on the Kingside the there must have been something like this. Black to move.



playing 1...g4 2....Rg5 3.g3+ Kh5

No more moves can be played there so we have to get the f1 Bishop to d1 from here.

I'm getting better.


I figured out the h6 pawn must have come from g7 and the g5 pawn was at one time the h7 pawn. (I think).

That's right. WPf7 and WPg6 made 3 captures each [they are from c2 and d2]. This accounts for all of the missing Black units, thus WPh7 did not capture anything. The Black pawns must have cross-captured to let Ph7 through.
