Ok, I know this may seem like a dumb question to some of you... but I was wondering what culture invented it and how old it was?

Probably it originated in India, though China's also a possibility. It's ancestor games date back to 600 CE or before.

thats germany - you know that right?

do you mean Persia?

if you did mean the latter then you may well be correct - as it is one of the contested countries....
