I have used this site, Chess Tactics Server. I like it a lot, but the time regimen emphasizes speed with the mouse. You get about 3 seconds to solve. even then you can't drag and drop, just like rhp, except here you have three days here. I like the whole setup, except i can't figure out where or how they get their problems. They claim they have an engine that creates them. They are quite typical, compared to CT ARTS, which has loads of queen sacs. On CTS you might just find the right escape square for your king, or snap up a wandering pawn, very typical for otb. The big thing is, of course, it's free. Once you register it keeps track of your rating and compares it to other solvers. Anyone interested can go to http://chess.emrald.net/index.php and find it. I had been thinking it would help blitz players most of all. I thought it wouldn't benefit RHP players so much because they wouldn't fall into obvious tactics. Lately, howver, i've won queens off two good players through simple tactics, which they didn't see through carelesness or whatever. So maybe i was wrong about the benefit of studying tactics for correspondence chess.

I'm indifferent about the site. It could be very useful for blitz play, but it's disastrous for other types of play. You have to make the moves fast, some of the puzzles have different solutions (moves are interchangable) and I noticed I got some sort of attitude of "white/black to play and win in a few moves", Even though the positions in my game are very often even.
Originally posted by buddy2I entirely agree with you. The time period given is far too short. One does not even have time to check whether or not their fork, skewer, deflection, etc. actually works. However, I do think the ability to see the potential for tactics is very useful even in slow chess for us lower class players. It allows you to accurately evaluate potential positions, and set up a deeper tactical trap.

I don't see how this could hurt your OTB play. As long as you don't get in the habit of making empty threat moves after thinking for 3 seconds, you should be fine.
