Originally posted by Mr AverageI wouldn't resign in that position, but I think black has nasty threats with the a8-h1 diagonal once he captures the e pawn next move.

Originally posted by Mr AverageThe White resigned because of zugzwang -his pieces are scattered and also he will soon lose either his e or his f pawn, and then he will be obliged to defend a clearly lost position.

I think that there is still something for the White to try if this game was OTB: his position could be tenable after 45.Rf1, inviting the Black to make the mistake to cut asap with 45. …Nxe4 and promoting a complicated endgame. However, since the White over here is an 2342RHP who was playing against a chessplayer rated 2408RHP and the time pressure is not a problem at all, I understand why he decided to resign
😵
I think he resigned because his e-pawn is doomed to fall, and with it the centre. And the more blood letting exchanges black enters into in this process, the stronger his obvious advantage of connected passed pawns (f- and g-) become.
Whites army is tied up in defence and uncoordinated. I would still have made black show me the win though, even if only 3 or 4 more moves.
